Traditional ways of assessing the game of hockey are quickly changing. With the use analytics, along with constantly evolving technology, teams are able to see the game like never before.
These analytics can consist of several advanced stats including iCorsi – a stat used to analyze shot attempts, as well as many other tools to allow coaches and players to see data related to puck possession, face-off trends, and much more.
Not everyone sees value in implementing “Big Data” into the coaching aspects of hockey, but it is clear that more and more teams at the junior level are recognizing some sort of value in these analytics.
It doesn’t seem clear yet if there is an advantage to using advanced stats in coaching, but as with everything in life these days, it seems “Big Data” is now a part of sports, and more coaches are willing to invest in detailed data, and alter their strategies accordingly.
