Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS), a worldwide call center, is moving into the old Zellers location at Tecumseh Mall and is estimated to hire over 600 workers by the end of this year.
The recent closing of Sobeys and Zellers left a couple hundred people unemployed in Windsor. This call center aims to employ double the jobs that were lost with the closing of the two grocery stores.
The company wants their clientele to remain anonymous, so not much is known about who they will service in Windsor yet. Debra McVeety, General Manager at Tecumseh Mall, has high hopes for what this will lead to.
“I think it’s going to have a tremendous affect,” said McVeety. “It’s going to do all kinds of great things.”
HGS plans to be up and running by the end of April. McVeety hopes that the traffic from the new call center will bring in more people to the mall, and create new job opportunities.
